How to Prepare for a Nutrition Facts Label
Gather the formula, yield, serving-size, ingredient, supplier, and laboratory information needed before creating a US Nutrition Facts panel.A good panel starts with controlled source data.
Before calculating nutrients, lock the current formula, ingredient specifications, supplier nutrition data, finished yield, serving-size basis, package configuration, and any normal processing loss. Small errors in yield or serving weight flow through every line of the panel.
Build the calculation from reliable inputs
Choose a defensible data method. Database calculations require accurate ingredient matches and retention assumptions. Laboratory analysis provides a sample result, but the sample must represent normal production. Some products use a combination of records and testing.
Turn the answer into a repeatable process
Review rounding, daily values, format size, dual-column requirements, nutrient claims, allergen presentation, net quantity, identity statement, and manufacturer information as one label system. A visually correct panel can still be substantively wrong.
Try it with your own numbers
