Free public maker tools

Batch Scale publishes 101 calculators, planners, generators, and checklists at /tools/. They work without an account. Entries and calculations remain in the visitor's browser unless the visitor chooses to copy, download, or print a result.

Finding the right tool

Use the instant search or choose one of ten responsive category tiles: bakery orders and events; formulation and batching; pricing and unit economics; sales and demand; compliance, labels, and traceability; packaging, shipping, and production; beauty and personal care; food and beverage process; craft materials and fabrication; or operations and wholesale. Search checks each tool's name, description, category, and configured aliases without reloading the page.

Search, category, and sort work together. The directory writes these choices to the category, search, and sort query parameters, so a filtered view can be bookmarked or shared and browser Back/Forward restores the previous state. Invalid values fall back safely to all tools and the default editorial order. Category totals and the overall total are calculated from the same catalog metadata used to render the cards.

When no search or category filter is active, the page highlights six editorially selected popular tools before the complete library. The sort menu supports Popular, Newest, and A–Z. “Popular” is an explicit editorial order until real usage metrics are available; “Newest” prioritizes the recently added expansion catalog rather than inventing publication dates.

Opening a tool records its route name and timestamp in browser localStorage under batchscale_recent_tools. Up to five unique tools appear in a lightweight Recently used row on the next visit. This history never requires an account, is not sent to Batch Scale, and can be cleared from the directory.

The specialized collection includes INCI ordering, preservative and HLB planning, process-yield and kitchen-cost allocation, water-activity screening, Brix and cold-brew calculations, resin volume, wick-test planning, fabric cut yield, reorder points, BOM explosion, LTL density, economic-nexus screening, and consignment-versus-wholesale comparison. The latest planning set also covers landed-cost allocation, supplier quotes and MOQs, batch variance, promise dates, packaging packout, shelf-life study schedules, mock recalls, free-shipping thresholds, and preorder cash and capacity.

Using any calculator

Every tool opens with a working example. The example demonstrates the expected format; it is not a recommended price, formula, process, or safety limit. Choose the closest preset when one is available, replace the example fields with real measurements or current estimates, and read both the live result and the important-limit section.

The short note below a field gives an entry example, format reminder, or practical tip without crowding the calculator. Select or focus the ? beside the label for the longer explanation of what the field means and why it affects the result. Use Hide field notes when the terms are familiar, or Restore example to return to the original walkthrough values.

Multi-item calculators show labeled add/remove rows instead of asking visitors to type separators or code-like records. Complex configured calculators also offer Guide me step by step. Every tool includes Print / Save PDF. Printing creates a compact Batch Scale report from the current browser state: the tool name, entered values, calculated result, preparation time, and source link. The public navigation, marketing sections, forms, and footer are excluded so they do not produce blank or unnecessary pages. The same report is used when someone invokes the browser print command directly from a tool page.

Tools that create a physical label, nutrition panel, invoice, packing slip, barcode, or QR code keep their purpose-specific print or download format. Those outputs are isolated at their intended dimensions instead of being wrapped in the general calculator report.

The custom cake pricing tool includes foundations for a simple party cake, detailed celebration cake, two-tier wedding cake, and decorated cupcakes. These foundations are editable reminders of common cost buckets—not suggested market prices. Confirm servings, materials, total working time, design difficulty, overhead, extras, delivery, and margin before using the quote.

Maintenance structure

Public tool views live in core/views/free_tools/, grouped by the same ten categories shown in the library. Category modules own their view classes and catalog entries, while catalog.py composes the complete collection. Templates live in templates/free_tools/ with matching category directories and shared base components. New tools should be added to the appropriate category instead of the general public views module.

Safety and compliance limits

These tools are planning aids, not approvals. High-risk tools display a specific warning beside the result. Cosmetic formulas still require supplier instructions, stability and challenge testing. Food products still require measured process data, a calibrated meter or qualified laboratory where applicable, and the responsible regulator or process authority. Candle recommendations are test ranges and require full burn testing. Freight classes and sales-tax nexus results must be verified with the carrier or official state authority.

Economic-nexus state selection prefills a planning threshold. The threshold remains editable because state rules, lookback periods, marketplace treatment, and transaction tests change. The tool links to the IRS directory of official state government websites instead of commercial comparison sites.

Troubleshooting

If a result is blank, review the message below the inputs and correct zero, negative, or inconsistent values. Calculations update as fields change. Use Copy plan for a text summary or Print for a compact paper/PDF reference. If a browser still shows an old multi-page preview after a deployment, close the preview, refresh the tool page, and print again so the current print stylesheet is loaded. Recalculate whenever a formula, supplier, process, package, or sales channel changes.
